Appendix A: Short List of Pangasinan and Bolinao Songs

	Fishing	*Kansion na Managsigay	This song is about fishermen who go to the sea to catch fish when the weather or the sea is calm.
		Wasiwas (instrumental – Rondalla)	This is a rondalla music that is used to accompany the Wasiwas dance. The Wasiswas dance originated in the shores of Lingayen beach among fishing communities.
		Kalukor	This song describes a third person’s point of view about his/her sighting of people doing kalukor along the beach. Kalukor is a method of fishing prevalent in some coastal towns and cities of Pangasinan

	Boating/ Transportation	Gali ta Paraw lay Unlayag (rowing song)	This song is about how the native boats called Paraw sail in the waters of the western Pangasinan coastal towns to ferry people who go about their daily life/work.

	Farming/ Agrigulture	Kansio’y Dumaralos	This song is about farmers. It describes who they are, what they can do with their tools, and without them people will go hungry.
		Kansio’y Kumakarit	Kumakarit talks about the way of harvesting nipa sap for making tuka (vinegar) or tuba (nipa wine).
		Pinalapa	This song is about harvesting corn from the field, describing its the challenges and fun.

Rituals & Chants
	For Healing/ Prayer for the Souls	Pantawtawag	Pantawatawag comes from the word tawag that means “to call”. Verses are sung/ chanted to call the soul/ spirit of the sick person, especially a child, in order for him/her to get well. In another version, the verses are sung as supplication for the poor souls in purgatory.

	Religious Worship	Abët-abët	This is a Catholic Lenten tradition practiced in Pangasinan that is known as “Salubong” in Filipino. In this traditional religious exercise songs are sung as part of the liturgy.
		1. Gozos ed katawan tin santa Maria 2. Gozos ya untombok ed aguido	Gozos are chants or songs of praises for patron saints in the Catholic faith that is predominate in many Filipinos and Pangasinan alike. In the tradition, gozos are performed/sung during processions or novenas
		Senakulo (instrumental music – combo)	Senakulo is a Lenten tradition among Filipinos, which is also present in Pangasinan like in the Capitol town of Lingayen where it is still practiced at present. The senakulo is a theatrical rendition of the passion, life and death of Jesus Christ where musical scores are essential to give aesthetics to the performance.

	On Death and Burial	Bakas (Alaminos & San Carlos versions)	ourning in the Pangasinan tradition. During the ritual a song is sung or some verses are chanted. There are versions of this, one is from Alaminos City and the other from San Carlos City
	On Death and Burial	Limaran Pikakasi (Song for the Dead)	This refers to “five petitions”. This is the only known song for the dead in Pangasinan.

	Courtship/ Love	Buracan	This is a love song that describes yearning and affection of a guy for a girl. In Pangasinan, the name Rosing would refer to any maiden endeared or wooed by many.
		Malinac Lay Labi	This is a popular Pangasinan song used in serenading. Due to its popularity, it is dubbed as the “national anthem of Pangasinan” and this has been arranged as a congest piece for choral singing here and abroad.
		Dampay	This is a love song that describes the heart of a person (a girl) that is likened to a hardened soil (sedimentary rock/ limestone) that with constant prodding and wooing would eventually soften and fall in love.
		Imunan (instrumental – Rondalla)	Imunan is a dance means
		Pëtëk	Petek means to stand in front of something or someone. In this case, petek is to stand and sing in front of the house of the maiden a guy is serenading (with love songs). In the Filipino/ Tagalog tradition, this is popularly known as harana.

	Marriage	Panangabalayan/ Pagatin	There are several stages in the Pangasinan wedding traditions, one of them is the Pagatin. This is when the bride is to set foot for the first time and welcomed in the household or balwarte of the groom. There is a dance and a song component of Pagatin
		“Abeten koy Manugang ko” Kansion na Pagatin
		Patanir	This song is bading “goodbye to maidenhood”. This is for a young lady about to enter into marriage and about to leave her maiden life.

	Lullaby (Bayuwa / Tambayo)	“Ogip ka la Inong”	This is a lullaby sang to put a c sleep. It tells the child that he sleep so his/her mother and f could go and do some work household chores
	Lullaby (Bayuwa / Tambayo)	Kurok kurok manok	This is said to be the oldest tambayo or lullaby in Pangasinan that speaks about a bird or a chicken.

		Aligando	This is a Pangasinan Christmas Carol. It is said to be the longest Christmas carol in Pangasinan
		Songs and Music in Sarsuela	Sarsuela is a theater form in Pangasinan
		Sayaw ed Tapew na Bangko (instrumental – Rondalla)	Sayaw ed Tapew na Bangko is a skill dance that originated in Pangasinan. The music accompanying the dance is rendered by Rondalla.
		Inter na Diyos (Lingayen & Alaminos versions)	—

	Milestones/ Birthdays/ Anniversaries	Kansiyon nu Compleaño/ Kansiyon nu Panagkorona	This song is part of a ritual when a child turns seven years old.

	Plants	Rosas na Bugonvilla	A song about the plant or flower bougainvillea.
		Sampagan Ambalingit
		Deyeng na Sampaguita	A song about the sampaguita plant/ flower

	Animals	Dalem na Dayat	This song is comical/playful description of a child’s imaginative adventure under the sea where he/she meets many fish and was offered various sea foods to eat but with no water to drink.
		Nanrosas so Kapasolan	This song is a comical/playful description of a cast of sea creatures that have peculiar characteristics which are figurative depiction of traits of people
		Walay Manok kon Taras	This song is about a little bird called taras where an allegorical conversation took place between a person and the bird describing how the person would have treated the little if he were a good or a bad person.
